CISCO 7200 I/O PCMCIA ACCS FLASH DISK MEM
The Cisco 7200 Series routers now support 48-MB, 64-MB, and 128-MB Flash disks on the I/O Controller cards. Flash disks, an alternative to linear Flash memory, are Flash memory-based devices that can be used as file storage media in the PCMCIA card slots of the I/O Controllers. Each I/O Controller has two PCMCIA slots and can be configured with up to 256 MB of Flash disk memory.
Flash disks coexist with linear flash products, which preserves customers' investments in their existing Flash memory infrastructure. Flash disks are scalable by allowing customers to grow Flash requirements that are consistent with their network growth.
Flash Disk is only supported on systems with the Cisco IOS filesystem feature. In general, Flash Disk functionality requires Cisco IOS release 12.0 or a later release.
For the 7200 series with an I/O Controller card the minimum supported releases for the Flash Disk are: 12.0(3)T, 12.0(5)S, 12.1(1)E, 12.1(1)T, 12.1(1), 12.2(1), 12.2(4)B.
Flash Disk is supported as the primary boot media for NPE-225, NPE-300 (EOS), NPE-400, and NSE-1 based systems only. For NPE-200 and below systems, you should use the Flash Disk side-by-side with linear Flash memory. Although it is possible to boot from a Flash Disk, a bootable image must be maintained on a linear Flash memory card to ensure the router is bootable if the bootflash software image becomes unusable.
