Toshiba’s new family of high performance drives delivers speeds of 7200rpm – the company's fastest HDD to date. The MK1251GSY has a much higher capacity combined with 33% performance improvement over its predecessor. The MK1251GSY also has the advantages of 300G of operating shock and 900G of non-operating shock.
Furthermore, the new drive incorporates Free Fall Sensor technology. This technology uses an embedded motion sensor to detect if the drive is in free fall. In such cases, the HDD quickly and immediately moves the read/write heads away from the spinning to prevent them damaging any data upon impact.
The 120GB drive has been developed for high performance notebooks and desktop PCs but is also ideally suited for the burgeoning video-based consumer electronic applications such as Personal Video Recorders, IPTV set-top boxes and other recording systems. In these applications, MK1251GSY’s 16MB buffer memory and high speed spindle will ensure optimum performance during data intensive workloads such as video dropping.
