Das HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448 Bandlaufwerk basiert auf der zweiten Generation der LTO-Technologie und ist eine kostengünstige Midrange-Bandsicherungslösung mit einer zukunftssicheren Kombination aus Funktionsumfang und Wert für die Sicherung von Midrange-SCSI- und -SAS-basierten Servern (Serial Attached SCSI). Mit LTO 2 Medien bietet das Ultrium 448 Bandlaufwerk eine komprimierte Kapazität von 400 GB pro Datenkassette. Dank der Verdopplung der Kapazität im Vergleich zum aktuellen Ultrium 232 Bandlaufwerk mit halber Bauhöhe wird nun eine geringere Anzahl von Datenkassetten benötigt. Dies sorgt für geringere IT-Kosten und bessere Rendite. Das Ultrium 448 kann in 2,5 Std. 0,5 TB Daten speichern, und seine hohe Leistung wird von dem exklusivem HP Funktion zum dynamischen Anpassen der Datenrate an den Durchsatz des Hosts (Data Rate Matching) noch gesteigert. Das Ultrium 448 ist mit der ersten und zweiten Generation an Ultrium Laufwerken und Medien vollständig lese- und schreibkompatibel.
